We must praise the Lord for this accomplishment. I must emphasize again that it has been God at work and He will continue working in Burundi.

The Lord's Church in Burundi desperately covets our prayers and support. They are working under very tough conditions.

A brief history about the Church of Christ in Burundi, traces to brother and a preacher AKEMBE AHUMBWE AMOU, he was baptized by evangelists from Tanzania in 1995 while he was living in DR Congo.

Due to wars in DR Congo, he was forced to move to Burundi with his family. In 2007 he started a small group with his neighbors and friends in Bujumbura which later was declared the first Church of Christ to be planted in the Republic of Burundi.

As the church gained roots and started expanding to other provinces over his oversight and by his efforts. They processed the church operation license from the government. ILDEPHONSE HARERINAMA, AKEMBE AHUMBWE AMOU, MAURICE , IROKOZE MADALAINE, & NAMILENGE MARIAM are the Church leaders who worked hard to ensure that the Church of Christ is legally registered and approved by the government under the the name "THE BODY OF CHRIST ". By the time of registration process, they found out that there was a denomination registered as Church of Christ, and they opted to use the above mentioned name.

They have so far planted Churches in six (6) provinces here in Burundi namely; BUJUMBURA, CANKUZO, RUYIGI, NGOZI, CHIBITOKI, MYYINGA AND BUBANZA. They have a person of peace in GITEGA PROVINCE. They have only 2 (two) Church buildings- just temporary like the one you see in the attached pictures. The government law doesn't allow any Church to gather in homes or under tree shades. You either construct such a building if you can't afford standard permanent Church building or never meet as a church. Or, rent a building for Church gathering and you must pay for notnless than 10 years. The church building must also have two separate pit latrines or toilets for ladies and gentlemen. The two must be a few meters away from each other, just like the one use see in the pictures.

4 Fields Discipleship Multiplication Training has been an eye opener and ignition to all attendees. Trainers were Duncan Ojiambo from Uganda, Paul Lulacha from Goma DR Congo, MMbehome Ebamba from Baraka, DR Congo and AKEMBE- Burundi. The trainees were amazed by the simplicity of sharing the gospel. Most of them thought that evangelism is the work of only preachers and those that have gone to preaching schools.

Just like anywhere else, women and children are the majority in the Church here in Burundi. The key leaders are also civil servants which gives the church an upper hand when it comes to her potential to grow.

The trainers of the trainers have promised to become intentional regarding people that are in their Relational Map but far from God. They are mapping out their Relational Maps in all the provinces in Burundi. And they have made a commitment that in the next 5 Years they want to plant Churches of Christ in all the remaining 11 provinces where the church hasn't reached yet. Burundi has 17 provinces, and we are in 6 provinces so far.
